Roncelli helped bring the Fred and Barbara Erb Discovery Trails to life through the erection of prefabricated tree trail and tree house play structures designed to create an elevated, nature-inspired experience.

The project features elevated play structures built with live black locust timber, suspension bridges, slides, climbing nets, and an elevated netted tunnel. Together, these elements create an interactive environment that encourages exploration, movement, and play while blending into the natural setting around it.

Roncelli’s role became especially important after the original company that designed and began fabricating the structure was no longer able to continue with the project. Our teams picked up where they left off, receiving and erecting the prefabricated components with limited drawings and incomplete assembly information.

Because many of the connection details and installation sequences had to be worked through in the field, the project required constant coordination, problem-solving, and flexibility. Roncelli’s teams helped resolve challenges as they came up, ensuring the structures were safely installed and aligned with the overall vision for the trail experience.

Through this work, Roncelli helped deliver a one-of-a-kind play environment that gives visitors a new way to experience the outdoors, explore the tree canopy, and connect with the natural world around them.
