The Cold Breek BESS EPC is utility-scale battery energy storage systems developed to strengthen grid reliability and support DTE Energy’s long-term renewable energy strategy. Designed to enhance system resiliency and integrate renewable generation assets, the projects provide critical peak-shaving capacity and grid stabilization infrastructure within Michigan’s evolving energy portfolio.

Roncelli’s EPC scope includes complete engineering, procurement, and construction of the battery energy storage facilities, including civil site development, foundations, equipment setting, electrical installation, and commissioning. Major components of work include construction of access drives and equipment pads, installation of battery enclosures and medium-voltage collection systems, integration of inverters and transformers, SCADA and control systems installation, and coordination with the interconnection substation. Roncelli is responsible for balance-of-plant integration, testing, and final commissioning to achieve full operational readiness.
All work is performed in accordance with prevailing wage and union labor requirements, incorporating strict safety protocols and quality control measures. Leveraging experience from prior energy infrastructure and utility-scale projects, Roncelli delivers disciplined project controls, proactive risk management, and collaborative coordination with the Owner and engineering partners to ensure schedule certainty and cost transparency.
