ARDC Battery Test Lab

Roncelli provided design-build services, including architectural and engineering support, for a specialized battery testing facility in the Canadian market. The project scope included architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, site work, equipment installation, and workforce coordination.

The facility was designed to support a complete battery testing environment, including battery storage, battery testing areas, pre-test and post-test spaces, office areas, washrooms, and PT and ISS instrumentation spaces, including a metrology lab.

A key component of the project included the installation of battery test cells capable of simultaneously testing multiple battery packs. These cells connect to inverter-based E-Storage units manufactured by AVL, the supplier of the overall test environment. The E-Storage equipment functions as both a battery tester and emulator, allowing it to operate as either a battery charger or battery discharge unit.

Roncelli also supported the completion of the Connection Impact Assessment study for ENWIN, demonstrating how the protection and control systems meet the requirements of Hydro One.
