The Cold Creek Solar Project is a utility-scale photovoltaic facility developed to support DTE Energy’s expanding portfolio of self-build renewable generation assets. Designed to provide clean, reliable power to Michigan’s grid, the facility encompasses over 650 acres of solar arrays, inverter stations, and access infrastructure engineered for long-term performance and sustainability.

Roncelli’s EPC scope includes complete engineering, procurement, and construction of the project’s civil, structural, and electrical systems, as well as site development and commissioning. Major components of work include construction of private access roads, installation of pile foundations and racking systems, construction of DC and 34.5 kV AC collection systems, and assembly and testing of the collector substation. The main power transformer is supplied by the Owner, with Roncelli responsible for balance-of-plant integration, power plant controller installation, and commissioning.

The site’s design incorporates stormwater management ponds, perimeter fencing, and multiple laydown areas, with all work performed under prevailing wage and union labor requirements. Roncelli collaborated with Tetra Tech and CrestCura to deliver an optimized EPC solution tailored to DTE’s specifications, applying lessons learned from previous solar developments to ensure cost efficiency, constructability, and schedule reliability.
