Henry Ford Health recently marked the completion of its new Centralized Sterile Compounding Center with a ribbon cutting alongside members of the Henry Ford Health team, Roncelli and project partners.

The event celebrated the transformation of underutilized storage space into a purpose-built pharmacy setting designed to support sterile pharmaceutical production and ongoing operations.

Transforming Existing Space for Pharmacy Operations

Roncelli renovated the existing area to create sterile production spaces, quality control laboratories, changing rooms and supporting areas within an active healthcare facility.

The work required extensive architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and HVAC upgrades. New partitions, doors, finishes, lighting, power distribution and environmental controls were installed, along with structural modifications and utility improvements needed to support new equipment.

A major component of the renovation was the installation of a large Grifols sterile compounding clean room within the existing building footprint. The team also coordinated the integration of a new walk-in refrigerator and freezer system provided through a separate owner contract.

Because construction took place within an occupied facility, the work had to be carefully sequenced to maintain ongoing pharmacy and patient care functions while limiting disruption to adjacent areas.

Coordination Behind the Build

The team navigated complex ceiling conditions, equipment deliveries and the installation of new rooftop support steel and air handling units above occupied pharmacy spaces.

Close collaboration between Henry Ford Health, trade partners, equipment suppliers and facility stakeholders was critical throughout construction. Grifols, Cencora and Facilinet each played an important role in bringing the Centralized Sterile Compounding Center to completion.

That collaborative approach helped address the facility’s unique technical requirements while maintaining schedule commitments and minimizing impacts to ongoing operations.

The ribbon cutting marked the completion of a renovation built around the needs of Henry Ford Health’s pharmacy operations. The finished space brings together the infrastructure, environmental controls and supporting systems required for sterile compounding within the existing facility.
